Federal Tax Clinic

The Villanova Law Federal Tax Clinic helps people with low incomes who are facing issues with taxes, including audits, appeals, and cases before tax courts. The clinic assists individuals whose income is under 250% of the federal poverty level (for example, $5,379 per month for a household of three in 2024). They focus on cases where the amount in dispute is under $50,000.

To get help, you must first go through an intake process to check if you qualify based on income and the nature of your case. If accepted, students in the clinic, guided by a director, will provide legal assistance.

The clinic does not prepare tax returns, apply for ITINs, or offer bookkeeping/accounting services. Keep in mind that using the clinic’s services will not affect how the IRS handles your case. If the clinic is full, there is a waitlist, and cases are prioritized based on certain goals, such as providing valuable learning opportunities for students and helping low-income taxpayers.
