MariaMaria and her girlfriend Charlotte have been dating and living together for over a year. Charlotte has been verbally abusive toward Maria in the past and has recently escalated to physical abuse. During their most recent fight, Charlotte threw a glass at Maria, hitting her in the face. Charlotte told Maria if she told anyone about the altercation, Maria would be sorry.

Maria may qualify for a Protection from Abuse Order (PFA).

Maria may qualify for a Protection from Abuse Order (PFA) because she is a victim of domestic violence caused by an intimate partner. Protection from Abuse Orders (PFA) protect victims and their family members from someone who has threatened or physically harmed you.


Eligibility for Protection from Abuse Order (PFA)

You may qualify for a PFA if:

If you are over the age of 18, otherwise, you will need an adult to file on your behalf.
If you are a victim of domestic violence or abuse caused by a current or former spouse, current or former sexual or intimate partner, household members related by blood, household members related by marriage, same sex couples, or parents and children.
